Master the Elevator Talk

April 20, 2008

Be sure to check out the April 20, Washington Post Jobs Section.  Our friend Gabe Goldberg mentions us in a feature article he wrote, “Hoping to Rise? Master the Elevator Talk,” that echoes what job seekers taking the 40Plus Training Course learn about developing their TMAYs (Tell Me About Yourself).

“Learn to Connect Quickly By Saying Who You Are And How You Could Help” reads the subhead, an important message to apply to any networking situation.

Also see of a sidebar to the article, “Go In With a Plan,” excerpts from Tough Questions — Good Answers, a book by Thomas Calcagni, who is the featured speaker at the 40Plus Monday Morning meeting April 28.

The Brand Called You

April 17, 2008

Our April 14 Monday Morning Meeting speaker, Tina Sung, co-founder & Managing Partner of Experience Matters: the Executive Transition Experts, touched on various topics including Self-Branding in her talk about ”18 Nuts and Bolts of Professional Job Search: Tips and Mistakes.”

She referred attendees to an article by Tom Peters, “The Brand Called You.” Here’s a link: http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/10/brandyou.html.  It’s worthwhile reading for any job seeker.

By the way, Ms. Sung’s presentation generated a lot of positive feedback, and we’re trying to schedule her for a more extended Saturday afternoon seminar sometime early summer.  Stay tuned.

40Plus welcomes April 21 speaker Sandy Mobley

April 16, 2008

40Plus of Greater Washington welcomes Sandy Mobley, founder of the Learning Advantage, to speak at our April 21 Monday morning meeting.  Her topic: First Impressions Matter.

Research states that people form impressions of others in the first 3 seconds of meeting them.  Our bodies speak volumes, even when our mouths are closed.  What messages are we sending?  How do we make sure our body sends the message we want to send?

In this session, you will have an opportunity to learn how to make a great first impression, to increase your ability to be centered and calm, to be able to align what you say with how you say it, and to model leadership presence.

Monday morning professional networking meetings are free and open to the public.
