The Brand Called You

Our April 14 Monday Morning Meeting speaker, Tina Sung, co-founder & Managing Partner of Experience Matters: the Executive Transition Experts, touched on various topics including Self-Branding in her talk about ”18 Nuts and Bolts of Professional Job Search: Tips and Mistakes.”

By the way, Ms. Sung’s presentation generated a lot of positive feedback, and we’re trying to schedule her for a more extended Saturday afternoon seminar sometime early summer.  Stay tuned.

40Plus of Greater Washington welcomes Sandy Mobley, founder of the Learning Advantage, to speak at our April 21 Monday morning meeting.  Her topic: First Impressions Matter.

Research states that people form impressions of others in the first 3 seconds of meeting them.  Our bodies speak volumes, even when our mouths are closed.  What messages are we sending?  How do we make sure our body sends the message we want to send?

In this session, you will have an opportunity to learn how to make a great first impression, to increase your ability to be centered and calm, to be able to align what you say with how you say it, and to model leadership presence.

Here’s an opportunity to meet recruiters from dozens of companies, including nonprofits, government, healthcare, retail, technology, and more.  Organized by the Jewish Council for the Aging, the 50+ Employment Expo also offers a number of concurrent job-search seminars on interviewing skills, changing careers, job-hunting tips, and resume writing.

40Plus 2008 Annual Meeting

More than 65 people attended the 40Plus of Greater Washington 2008 Annual Meeting March 27, marking the organization’s 55th anniversary of empowering professionals to find meaningful work or make a career transition.  By unanimous proclamation, attendees approved the slate of nominees to the Board of Directors — Bob Guldin, Colleen Hoar, Barbara Hoenig, Pat Lovenhart, Michael Marinelli, and Allen Rotz will serve on the board until 2010, joining Pat Jayne, David Powell, Kathy Shuman, and Mark Thalhimer, whose terms expire 2009.

The Board and Operating Council recognized IT Director Jim Kast, Training Director Tessa Lachman, and former Marketing Director David Powell for their outstanding service to the organization.

In addition to conducting a bit of business, attendees enjoyed the networking opportunity, catching up with friends, and a lively evening of raffling a long list of office supplies.  Thanks to the hard work of the Annual Meeting Committee Chair Joan Morgan, as well as Brenda Dunlap, Mary Ellen McKenna, and Bron Gervais, everyone enjoyed the event MC’d by Acting Executive Director Joel Sarfati and yours truly, Marketing Director Dave Heffernan.

40Plus of Greater Washington welcomes Azim Salmon to speak at our March 31 Monday Morning Meeting.  Mr. Salmon manages a Verizon Wireless Communication Stores and will present a workshop on Adult Toys: Business Technologies Explained.

Mr. Salmon is bringing the latest notebook computers, samples of new phone technology and will discuss using “air cards” to access wireless communication.
